After last year’s Balkan Rivers Tour 5, hours of useful materials we filmed while getting to know the Sava, and months in editing, here is the official trailer for the upcoming film One for the River: The Sava Story. vimeo link There is a river that flows from the heart of the Julian Alps through four countries and many landscapes, all the way to Belgrade, where it drains into the Danube, ending its journey in the Black Sea. It is called the Sava and is the home river of most of the team behind and in front of the cameras of this film. Despite living next to it, many never […]
Naredili smo vse, da našo domačo reko in njene prebivalce prikažemo karseda dobro. Oglejte si film in spoznajte velike sulce med drstjo, zanimivo veslanje slapu Grmečica in poglobljen intervju z našim ustanoviteljem Rokom Rozmanom tule: https://www.bbcearth.com/shows/earths-great-rivers-ii (Iz slovenskih računalnikov oz. On March 25th BBC’s elite documentary series Earth’s Great Rivers premiered their most recent episode about the Danube river system. Featured in this stunning film that is a true tribute to the Alpine rivers flowing into the Black Sea are also our actions and efforts to keep rivers free. The whole sequence about the Sava River was filmed last spring by our film crew at Leeway Collective and we did our best to show our home river and its scaley inhabitants best we could. Watch the film and see massive Sava Huchen spawning, a cool waterfall drop in a kayak and a profound interview with our founder Rok Rozman here: […]
Yesterday, after years of hard work and 4 court trials, our Romanian friends Catalin Campeanu and Calin Dejeu managed to prove that dam construction on stunning Basca Mare River is illegal, which means that construction authorisation obtained by the company Hydroelectric is canceled, woohoo! This is not the final legal step though, but the future for Basca Mare now looks brighter than ever. These passionate and determined guys demonstrated it is possible and are saying thank you to everyone who helped them in one way or another or simply donated to the cause when it was most necessary. The BRT4 week in Romania in 2019 was one for the books and it […]
Local sheriffs have been actively transforming the Soča Valley into Disneyland for several years, and their latest project has gone a step further. In the Trnovo gorge (between Trnovo and Kobarid), which is protected by Natura 2000 and at the same time declared a natural heritage and natural monument, illegal construction was recently undertaken. Despite the prohibition and disagreements by the Institute for Nature Protection of the Republic of Slovenia, they started (and almost finished) the works that reopened the abandoned road from Italian occupation and enabled access to the most remote pool of the Soča River by car. During the works stones, rocks and trees were barbarically pushed down […]
Honoured to have been nominated and excited to win the Kayak Session Magazine Paddler’s Award for the Non Profit Organization of the Year. We will use it as a reason to celebrate and then go ahead even more determined to do our part in keeping rivers and river stretches wild. In 2021, a bit different than in the other years, we have been focused on one of our home rivers here in Slovenia and we plan on doing the same in the future. Hopefully this international recognition helps the efforts to cancel the absurd dam plans on the Sava. Cheers to all!
The fact that Slovenia’s two major rivers, the Mura and the Sava, can still flow mostly unhindered through their riverbeds is largely thanks to the conservationist Andreja Slameršek. We are sometimes the loud and obvious ones, but if it wasn’t for Andreja, her fearlessness and determination at court cases, our actions would be more or less useless! She succeeded at many court cases, stopping several planned hydropower projects that would have destroyed the unique, ecologically valuable floodplain landscapes of the two rivers. Andreja was awarded the Wolfgang Staab Nature Conservation Prize 2021 for her outstanding commitment to nature conservation and we salute and congratulate her! Respect!
