STAGE VICTORY FOR ROMANIA’S BASCA MARE

STAGE VICTORY FOR ROMANIA’S BASCA MARE

Yesterday, after years of hard work and 4 court trials, our Romanian friends Catalin Campeanu and Calin Dejeu managed to prove that dam construction on stunning Basca Mare River is illegal, which means that construction authorisation obtained by the company Hydroelectric is canceled, woohoo! This is not the final legal step though, but the future for Basca Mare now looks brighter than ever. These passionate and determined guys demonstrated it is possible and are saying thank you to everyone who helped them in one way or another or simply donated to the cause when it was most necessary. The BRT4 week in Romania in 2019 was one for the books and it […]

DESTRUCTION IN THE PROTECTED TRNOVO GORGE ON SOČA

DESTRUCTION IN THE PROTECTED TRNOVO GORGE ON SOČA

Local sheriffs have been actively transforming the Soča Valley into Disneyland for several years, and their latest project has gone a step further. In the Trnovo gorge (between Trnovo and Kobarid), which is protected by Natura 2000 and at the same time declared a natural heritage and natural monument, illegal construction was recently undertaken. Despite the prohibition and disagreements by the Institute for Nature Protection of the Republic of Slovenia, they started (and almost finished) the works that reopened the abandoned road from Italian occupation and enabled access to the most remote pool of the Soča River by car. During the works stones, rocks and trees were barbarically pushed down […]

PADDLER’S AWARD FOR THE NON PROTIF ORGANIZATION OF THE YEAR

PADDLER’S AWARD FOR THE NON PROTIF ORGANIZATION OF THE YEAR

Honoured to have been nominated and excited to win the Kayak Session Magazine Paddler’s Award for the Non Profit Organization of the Year.  We will use it as a reason to celebrate and then go ahead even more determined to do our part in keeping rivers and river stretches wild. In 2021, a bit different than in the other years, we have been focused on one of our home rivers here in Slovenia and we plan on doing the same in the future. Hopefully this international recognition helps the efforts to cancel the absurd dam plans on the Sava. Cheers to all!

ANDREJA SLAMERŠEK RECEIVES THE WOLFGANG STAAB NATURE CONSERVATION AWARD 2021

ANDREJA SLAMERŠEK RECEIVES THE WOLFGANG STAAB NATURE CONSERVATION AWARD 2021

The fact that Slovenia’s two major rivers, the Mura and the Sava, can still flow mostly unhindered through their riverbeds is largely thanks to the conservationist Andreja Slameršek. We are sometimes the loud and obvious ones, but if it wasn’t for Andreja, her fearlessness and determination at court cases, our actions would be more or less useless! She succeeded at many court cases, stopping several planned hydropower projects that would have destroyed the unique, ecologically valuable floodplain landscapes of the two rivers. Andreja was awarded the Wolfgang Staab Nature Conservation Prize 2021 for her outstanding commitment to nature conservation and we salute and congratulate her! Respect!

Fist sneak peak of moving images capturing the Balkan Rivers Tour 5 descent of the Sava river in Slovenia can now be seen in the short videos that you can reach here.

POSTPRODUCTION PHASE ON THE SAVA DOCUMENTARY

POSTPRODUCTION PHASE ON THE SAVA DOCUMENTARY

Our crew has started the film production now, diving into creating our documentary about the Sava River. After 1.5 months of intense work going through all the footage, we have now started the editing process and are stitching together sequences. Presenting the 258 km of a river, its beauty and threats to a viewer is quite a challenge, but we are up for it. Po mesecu in pol pregledovanja in sortiranja posnetkov, smo sedaj v montaži in oblikujemo posamezne sekvence.

THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT FOR ROMANIA’S BASCA MARE RIVER

THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT FOR ROMANIA’S BASCA MARE RIVER

Remember week 1 of BRT4 in Romania and how we were doing our best to help the local fight for the stunning Basca Mare River? The push to stop the controversial dam that would divert most of the flow through the mountain, just reached a milestone. Last Thursday the Declic crew won an appeal on the lawsuit for Basca Mare! The file will go back to the tribunal (where it was abusively closed by the judge who accepted the late submission exception), to be judged on substance. In the meantime, the works at the dam did not progress much, and in the spring the building permit will expire for good. […]
